I went along to a new Vintage Fair at the Methodist Hall on Wigton Road, Carlisle on Saturday 11th February. It wasn't as big as the one I went to in Newcastle arranged by Jayne Turner but still nice. The cakes looked very tasty indeed.
I didn't manage to purchase anything for our deconstuct/reconstruct exercise tomorrow but I did pick up these gorgeous kitten heels. Role on sunny weather!
The organizer of the new Vintage Fairs is Stuart & Co. of www.veryvintageaffairs.com. Check out his web site for a list of more fairs at the same venue.

Heart in Hand

I am currently working on designs within the trend
Gothic Luxe. As part of my development I have been
using x-rays of my own body. I have used my hands and
my spine to create a design for digital print.
Within this design, I have developed an image with two
hands linked over a vertebra, this looks similar
to a poppy with a heart in the centre of it.

I had been dying some fabric with Dylon dye and kept a
little back to play with. I created this back-ground fabric
using the powder on wet fabric.
I then printed one of the hands with the heat
transfer method over the back-ground.

The next step was layering fine fabrics under the print and stitched with the machine through all of the layers. I
outlined the hand and the shape of the vertebra.

Using sharp scissors I cut away the layers to reveal
the image of the poppy.

Then further into the layers to reveal the heart.

I am really pleased with the way this has turned out and
could imagine it being used as detail on a jacket back, and
in a smaller version on a jeans back pocket.
